Looking at the Federated timeline..
..this spam attack is Fedi wide and not only local
My guess is that some app/client got hacked and leaked the credentials but it’s a guess
Unfort that’s how it works, even with 2FA enabled you need some sort of access for apps and clients
So people, this would be a good time to review your allowed apps in account settings and delete those you do not use!
*again it’s a guess but better to be sure
