You used to rely on MapQuest for printing out driving directions before GPS navigation was a thing. Now it's helping to fight mass surveillance. https://this.weekinsecurity.com/mapquest-now-lets-you-locate-nearby-surveillance-cameras-like-flock/
@zackwhittaker downloading now, because I can use 2 apps for different functions
@zackwhittaker They won't convince me they care about privacy until they fix this:
@zackwhittaker I use Waze, it is interactive and people will put in when the cops are there, later on, if you pass the spot it will ask if the object, roadworks or traffic jam is still there. of course static things like radars are signed in, but not questioned. Very useful to avoid fines 😊 Also shows if there are other cars using the app https://www.waze.com/
@zackwhittaker I always had Rand McNally easily within reach behind me.
@zackwhittaker I use noai.duckduckgo for search, but they use apple maps, and OMG those are garbage, (missing street names, block numbers) (does apple even know what a cartographer is?) and I switch to MapQuest simply to get basic info a map should have.
@zackwhittaker while also taking me to the wrong locations, crashing constantly, and draining my battery unfortunately. Going to try Organic Maps instead
@zackwhittaker That's pretty big. They aren't a mainstream app anymore, but they certainly have the name recognition (as the dated maps app, unfortunately...).
