How have we as a society gotten to the point where we’ve complicated the act of disposal of rubbish enough that it seemingly requires a master’s degree to understand which bit goes in which bag or bin in every home, let alone the variations per district or country?
@amymagdalena All well and good, but I am not currently in the EU.
Also, those things won’t work for, e.g. beer bottle caps, or other small parts of a whole
@moof @amymagdalena I am now wondering if we're gonna get captive beer bottle caps now like we do with plastic bottles...
I wonder if the UK will decide it needs it's own unique set of symbols, or if these will arrive least become a de facto universal standard.
@quixoticgeek @moof @amymagdalena being, it's probably easy enough to sort automatically?
@amymagdalena @moof will this be communicated to people, or will we just see weird new symbols and be expected to know them ?
@quixoticgeek @moof i'd assume there'll be *some* PSAs put out by *some* national broadcasters, i found these on page 52 of https://circulareconomy.europa.eu/platform/sites/default/files/2026-01/JRC141706_01.pdf
@amymagdalena @moof 24 new symbols they expect people to learn ?!?!?!?
@moof iirc new EU laws will require a harmonised sorting label from august 2028
