seeing hacker news type people post about margaret hamilton (rip) and forgive me for this, but it feels like she died like she lived, still ignored by management

perhaps the most universal experience of a professional software engineer is making preparations for failure and having them ignored by management, only to them to find out the hard way
alas, you didn't end up looking smart but made other people feel stupid, so you won't get listened to next time
without a union, a professional body, or legal consequence for negligence, software engineering will continue to go fast, and only examine consequences after the preventable accident
anyway, i guess the other, potentially more important moral is this: you might not get listened to, but you can still speak out, and sometimes you can stop an accident from happening
one of many stories about margaret hamilton was her daughter discovering a bug in the simulator, reporting it, being told it wouldn't happen, only for an astronaut to hit the same problem
the true moral of the story is this:
if you present anything as a choice to management, be it testing or other safety critical work, they will see it as optional, and will default to saying no
doing anything more than the minimum best practice means taking more responsibilities for delays
