the conflicted position of having been a PhD student who had to have all kinds of side quests that were both known to the supervisor and kept secret from the supervisor (like - publishing a book on the side with a friend...)
and then being a PhD supervisor with PhD students who have all kinds of side quests that appear to be competing with their ability to get their PhD done 😭
@ckohtala HAHAHAHA I didn’t know this was a known thing? My supervisor, of course, knew full well that I was writing an entirely separate book during the PhD, but we tried to ensure that nobody else did.
