@catsalad I had to write some custom fail2ban filters and I even wrote a custom script to ban entire Class C subnets. Then I altered my Apache config so it would respond with a 403 error if an anonymous IP tried to hit the database hard. Took me 6 solid months to cull the herd enough to get system stats back under control.
@catsalad so what you're saying is the scrapers need to learn to kitten mew, or spread some form of toxoplasmosis... oh right they're on it...
@catsalad
Can't stop laughing ๐
@catsalad This is why someone invented feeding maschines. I'm pretty sure, exactly because of kittens.
@energisch_ @catsalad once you're to the kibble stage this is past. She's at the gruel stage and that takes a little prep time.
Plus you're doing it a bunch of times a day, though it's usually the morning sessions that get the most INTENSITY.
@kevingranade When I was a kid I tried to rescue 2 kittens whose mom died in a car crash. I got special milk from our vet and feeding was every 2 hours. I cannot imagine how one would manage 5 or 6 of them. The 2 babies (12 days young) were enough work for me at age 10. But they grew up and stayed with my family for many years. @catsalad
re: Serious answer to probable joke comment
@energisch_ @kevingranade I've bottle fed 3 rescues one time, but even with my spouse helping it was a lot of work!
@catsalad Facebook in particular was hitting my site so hard it was downloading 200+ pages from deep database calls (mediawiki) every minute or so, often with the same data another of the bots just scraped.
