To see why the AI math are not matching, ask any cheerleading botlicker about what the end game should look like. They will tell you subscriptions (which they value at $100/month). That is ~450B a year if we everyone gets one which is the size of the US home improvement industry.

@ChristosArgyrop I think I read somewhere that OpenAI has maybe 60m paid users at any paid tier, but most of those are consumer plans, not the heavier usage business plans. The amount of money they're making compared to how much they're spending to make that money is huge. I haven't seen anyone articulate how this is ever going to make money.
