One thing confused me about what he's saying here: about having one central place where people can find info without logging in. That should be their website!
I'm a believer in the POSSE approach, as per @molly0xfff. why can't websites have a repository of all posts (short and long form) and they get syndicated out to various places (including Mastodon)?
