If you’re a man wondering what you can do about the Cornell 7 situation: cut off that guy you know who has committed assault. That’s literally it. Tell him to his face, “I can’t be friends with people who act like this”.
@danirabbit Then tell the police. You never know, they might do their job… 😒
@danirabbit I am a man. I approve of this message.
@danirabbit But if we just start ostracizing and casting out any and all transgressive men, all those ostracized men will group together and create pod casts and things about a newly constructed misogynistic world view that draws in young disenfranchised boys who then become a formidable political force who vote in crazy fascists who tear down our democracies and just start doing bad things because they can and there are no more consequences.
Think of how bad that might be!
@danirabbit FUCK yeah
I mentioned the most evil person I've met in my life over the weekend, he was trying to threaton me with his lawyer
"He got me off on an SA charge, he's gonna get ALL your jobs"
That was when I stopped trying to verbally deescalate him, little bastard can get fucked
@danirabbit jfc esp the ones that don’t even acknowledge that that behavior *is* assault……so fucking tired
Auto blocking anyone even remotely close to posting “not all men”. I’m too tired dude.
@danirabbit not all men are decent human beings. :)
@danirabbit I've had that response so. many. times. I don't even post or engage with posts where that reply could conceivably turn up eventually.
It's fucking exhausting.
@danirabbit What I've never understood about that take on the topic is...how many men are you friends with who has committed assault? Or any crime?
It isn't like most people are hanging out with criminals, or folks in prison. Most of us are "normal", not homicidal maniacs assaulting people in our free time. Like most adults, I live at home, raise my kids, teach my teenagers how to drive, convince them to do their homework, typical stuff.
It isn't like "men" provide safe harbour to folks like the "Cornell 7". We're not out here trying to cause all sorts of pain to fellow humans, much less our mothers, sisters, and daughters.
@charette @danirabbit That’s a lot of words just to say ‘not all men’
@farah Trying to counteract all the people posting lots of words saying "all men ..."
@charette Definitely not helping your cause..
@farah I'm comfortable with who I am. I've led a peaceful and productive life, and one that I strongly believe most people would be proud of. I've raised 4 kids. Have a great relationship with parents, kids, and friends/neighbours.
I just think it is unfortunate that some people think it is OK to blame "all men". Because "all men" are as responsible as you may be personally responsible for what happened to me when I was a boy.
If I went around and posted or blamed "all women" for things that happened, it would be both inaccurate and a disservice. Telling other boys and men that "all women" are to blame.
We must stop accusing everyone who is trying to help. This thread started about the "Cornell 7". Not me. I was never part of a fraternity. I did not attend Cornell. I don't even live in that country! I'm glad she's bringing that lawsuit and exposing them and Cornell.
But "all men" did not do this. Just like you weren't the one who raped me when I was a boy.
@akamran @farah That reads like:
"Sorry that happened to you, but it is still your fault that a woman somewhere else in the world was raped."
And this is why I have a problem with this whole approach.
Should I take your stance? All women are suspect until their behaviour proves them trustworthy?
Much good that would do. :(
@akamran @charette Our personal experiences don’t tell the whole story, even if we want to. Statistically it’s very safe to get vaccines; personally I was injured and had side effects. I’m absolutely pro-vaccine, and gave my own kid the same vaccine. He’s immune and doing fine. I know I had a bad luck. That doesn’t mean that I believe other people shouldn’t get vaccinated.
The “all men” phrase is just a colloquial term to describe that statistic. Now if you have problem with that, maybe you shouldn’t be part of this discussion?
@danirabbit I can't be friends with Fraternities.
