If you’re a man wondering what you can do about the Cornell 7 situation: cut off that guy you know who has committed assault. That’s literally it. Tell him to his face, “I can’t be friends with people who act like this”.
@danirabbit I am pleased to say that there was an excellent discussion on radio station 99X in Atlanta this morning. They hit every single point I wanted them to say, and I sat in my car even when I arrived at my destination, just to listen to it. So, some of it is at least being discussed in a serious and empathetic way.
@danirabbit
Other tips for men wondering what they could do to help: volunteer as a big brother and teach the next generation how to deal with their emotions instead of taking them out on vulnerable people around them. Actually create support groups that hold each other accountable. Just spitballing here, but seems like a great starting point.
Good role models and accountability can only help. Looking at you, too, Cornell Uni. Institutions don't get a free pass. More power, more responsibility, eh?
@danirabbit there are so many people these days who refused to take responsibility for their actions, decisions and opinions, including those of the people they choose to surround themselves with, I tried to change people's minds around so many toxic actions and behaviors, to try and see the bigger picture and how it impacts areas of their life they find frustrating and painful, they either can't understand, or refuse to understand because it would be inconvenient. So I cut them out of my life.
@danirabbit and if a friend of yours posts something about a drunk woman who can be used calm the cops. Don't participate, but also don't just ignore it ffs.
@danirabbit @markwyner new litmus test for friendship: was what happened to the Cornell 7 an appropriate response by the administration?
@danirabbit fuck those asshole rapists, fuck Cornell for being complicit, and fuck anyone not condemning all of them for this shit.
@danirabbit I can't be friends with Fraternities.
@danirabbit Then tell the police. You never know, they might do their job… 😒
@danirabbit I am a man. I approve of this message.
@LondonEastfield @danirabbit
I'm a man that second that.
Using "not all men" is to pretend to be understanding, while avoiding taking any kind of stand.
It's even worse than the feckless "we should listen to both sides" excuse.
Yes, all men, each and every one of us, until you and I say and act: "Enough of this, no more."
@danirabbit But if we just start ostracizing and casting out any and all transgressive men, all those ostracized men will group together and create pod casts and things about a newly constructed misogynistic world view that draws in young disenfranchised boys who then become a formidable political force who vote in crazy fascists who tear down our democracies and just start doing bad things because they can and there are no more consequences.
Think of how bad that might be!
@danirabbit FUCK yeah
I mentioned the most evil person I've met in my life over the weekend, he was trying to threaton me with his lawyer
"He got me off on an SA charge, he's gonna get ALL your jobs"
That was when I stopped trying to verbally deescalate him, little bastard can get fucked
@danirabbit jfc esp the ones that don’t even acknowledge that that behavior *is* assault……so fucking tired
Auto blocking anyone even remotely close to posting “not all men”. I’m too tired dude.
@danirabbit Maybe not all men, but anyone who posts "not all men" just outed themselves as one of those men anyway.
@danirabbit not all men are decent human beings. :)
@danirabbit I've had that response so. many. times. I don't even post or engage with posts where that reply could conceivably turn up eventually.
It's fucking exhausting.
Not only exhausting but frightening because the lack of taking responsibility is why there's an increase in femacides not only in Canada but worldwide.

@TrueNorthSpice @danirabbit And this post just crossed my timeline, which further undersscores Danielle's point.

@danirabbit What I've never understood about that take on the topic is...how many men are you friends with who has committed assault? Or any crime?
It isn't like most people are hanging out with criminals, or folks in prison. Most of us are "normal", not homicidal maniacs assaulting people in our free time. Like most adults, I live at home, raise my kids, teach my teenagers how to drive, convince them to do their homework, typical stuff.
It isn't like "men" provide safe harbour to folks like the "Cornell 7". We're not out here trying to cause all sorts of pain to fellow humans, much less our mothers, sisters, and daughters.
@charette @danirabbit That’s a lot of words just to say ‘not all men’
@danirabbit what scares me is that I don't know any such men and I can't help but think that I might sometimes just not see it when in fact I should? I CAN see it in strangers, so am I just blocking it out with men I know? Or am I just ridiculously lucky in picking my friends and acquaintances? It scares me.
