Funny how the human race managed to get by fine without Instagram for tens of thousands of years, but now that Instagram exists we NEED some alternative.
Touching grass is a perfectly valid alternative to all social media.
The thing is, as long as everyone flocks to the "shitty but at least not the worst" solution, it will fill the niche and prevent anything better from ever coming along. Like Firefox does in the browser space.
