From everyday expressions to words that capture an idea or feeling in a way your own language doesn’t, languages give us different ways to understand and connect with the world.
Today, we celebrate Europe’s linguistic diversity and the 24 official languages of the EU. 🇪🇺

@EUCommission Please consider showing empathy to people with learning disabilities who struggle to learn languages (esp., without any support). I can't stress enough how much hate I get for not being able to 'just learn the language.' It's extremely isolating and frustrating. If i could i would speak at least 3.
@EUCommission Catalan, a language banned as an official language in the EU. Catalans, second-class citizens.

@EUCommission I'm fluent in German and English, A-level in Italian (though rusty), know the basics of Spanish and Latin, can read Romanian, and have taught myself a few words and phrases in Japanese. I also have a habit of mimicking other peoples' accents if I'm exposed to their way of talking for a longer time. As in, a subconscious habit. I don't do this deliberately.
Favourite words include: whippersnapper, Türlü and einknasten.

@EUCommission 5, we speak 3 basically in Luxembourg: Luxembourgish, French and German fluently, then I also speak English fluently and my Dutch is a little rusty. 🤔 😊

A1 in Dutch, Arabic and Hebrew
Used to also enjoy the iffy privilege of 6 full years of Latin in school; of which little remains.
Besides: the EU is a blessing to have.
