today I explained what Legistar is to a friend who's just recently started getting involved in local NYC advocacy

pulled up a sample bill on my phone and showed him where one finds the bill number, sponsor list, bill text, and so on

I don't remember ever having done this before, but it felt familiar, probably because whenever I learn a complex sociotechnical system well enough to teach others about it, there's usually a point where I'm helping them learn about some widely-used piece of software and showing where in a nonintuitive UI they can find what they need
