Your welcome. It is not always easy. For example, i use Signal messenger,and do not use whatsapp (because i do not agree to the user agreement). People have no idea about online privacy, what most foss software offers. Their is also not much people who knows operating systems like Linux and BSD, or Murena /e/OS (ungoogled android))
@jeroensky I hear you. I stopped using WhatsApp six years ago because… Meta and all its terrible ways.
99.9% of people in my daily life use WhatsApp and it makes me feel so icky to think it has full access to their address book and photo albums… so as much as I personally avoid Meta, it still gets stuff related to me and my family though people I know that use WhatsApp.
And family members / friends see no problem with that. They treat me like a freak for my views 😭
@_elena @jeroensky Convenience seems rational. You are helping to build a better path and it will happen. I think your posts and energy are very invigorating and as ever the most important asset in all your efforts is you so hope you get some time to enjoy the autumnal weather starting.

I love love love this community but out in the real world I experience so much hostility from people whenever I propose alternatives to Big Tech platforms. Well, hostility or condescending reactions that attempt to paint me as an eccentric or radical...
That's why I treasure each and every opportunity to attend fediverse events. It's a wonderful feeling to be with people who share the same values
@_elena Elena, Du machst hier wertvolle ehrenamtliche Arbeit zur Föderung des Fediverse. Das erscheint erstmal nur oberflächlich und langweilig - weil Soial Media - ist aber in dieser Zeit sehr wichtig und sollte entsprechend gewürdigt werden. Suppenküche ist gut und macht satt, Fediverse und Freiheit verteidigen ist aber für eine funktionierende Demokratie absolut notwendig. Danke.

@_elena I feel the same way about spaces that value people over algorithms. Privacy, accessibility, an open web, independent publishing, and human creativity all matter more as the internet becomes increasingly centralized. Communities like this are a reminder that technology can still be built around people, not just platforms.

for weaving the thread and banging the drum and making our sentiments into something larger. eventually, i hope, we can all become a movement. because our voices here are something, but there is a sea of people out there with the same thoughts. they just haven't cohered them into anything solid yet, they just have vague feelings. but when they do grow in their awareness, they will find us
