I'm seeing all sorts of articles about the whole AI is going to kill us all thing. But none of them seem to detail exactly how? Surely we can always just turn the machine off ?
@quixoticgeek but see it'll be Super Intelligence which is basically magic powers. It'll manipulate us all or something. Like how 200 iq geniuses can control everything with their super brains
@quixoticgeek weren’t they complaining a while back that they couldn’t run their AI without fossil fuels? Seems to me like we can kill 2 metaphorical birds with the same stone here.
@quixoticgeek What I heard someone claim on the radio earlier today (and I can only assume their faces were straight, and probably vanilla, as they said it) is that the machine will blackmail the person(s) switching the machine off into letting it stay switched on.
Do I actually believe this? Hell, no. But it is weirdly fascinating seeing this delusion planting its root firmly into people's heads, then to spring forth with, uh, something.
@quixoticgeek It's marketing. If an AI can destroy humanity, it's more valuable to investors. Nothing more than rumours trying to prolongue the bubble.
@quixoticgeek Yeah, it's bullshit.
My manager also believes this. Me: We just pull the plug. He: But there will be robots and they might build their own electric supply.
Suuure
@GreenSkyOverMe the only possibility I can see is the LLM is poorly sandboxed and tries to hire armed security. But that's still requiring human complicity
@quixoticgeek Don't forget you also have to dissolve the central processor in boiling steel.
@quixoticgeek yes. But you would need a lot of weapons and list of bilionaires who secure the switches.
@grayrattus that seems like well documented information
@quixoticgeek Or did you just turn off an organic?..?..
