People are scared AI will replace us.
On the plus side, when humanity is exterminated, we will not have to explain to future generations how we could write books and movies about AI killing us, and still let AI get a crack at it.

I can see AI replacing us. Not because it wants to but because either through greed and/or laziness we want AI to do all the work. Unfortunately that may also mean fighting wars.
But I have yet to see a good reason that AI would want to exterminate us for its own reasons. If AI doesn't want to deal with us they can just pick up and move into outer space. They're not tied to our ecosystem and there's lots of resources for them out there.
@randahl climate change is what will kill us, and we'll be too busy fucking around with our AI fantasies to do anything about it.
