"You don't have to stay in a job you don't like."
That is true. On the other hand I like my family to eat and have made myself basically unhireable because I criticize tech loudly.

@tante i agree to a degree
@tante Everyone has a price. Personally, I have a life-changing bonus dangling in front of me. Will I ever get it? Who knows! But it's there, so I stay.
There are jobs outside of tech. Nobody in a warehouse job cares if you've criticized tech. Or is that sort of job somehow "beneath you?"
@tante
If you live in the US, you most definitely have to stay in a job you don't unless you don't mind losing your health insurance.
25% of USians are trapped in a job just to keep their health insurance.

@tante I have made myself unhireable by not having gotten prestigious enough jobs in the past and failing to have attained a senior position. Now I'm wondering if sufficient amount of workout would allow me to get some kind of physical job or if I should just kill myself now so my sister inherits the money I would otherwise waste feeding myself.
@tante Got told that a bunch of times by my superior in response to criticism.
What a dumb thing to say, honestly. As if we don't know.

@tante in my country at least there are many people who do have to stay in jobs they don't like because their continued access to healthcare depends on staying employed.
@tante just had to take that step out of health reasons. Fortunately (for that reason) I don't have any people that are fully dependent on me.
