Truth? I think it's all a scam. The reality is that these AI technologies are doing very real harm to our society right now, and eventually that harm is going to be quantifiable, and when it is people who have been harmed are going to hit the courts and demand all of the monies.

If you convince society that the machine is thinking, that it's sentient, then it's not YOUR fault that the machine harms ppl - and you can't sue an AI agent.

Honestly? I think Skynet is a scam.

Greg Jensen: “You could regulate it by, even though you don't know anything, if they just interviewed everybody in the labs, put them under oath. You would learn a lot about what is going on here. If you actually said, you're responsible for the crimes your AI creates, you would slow things down. And it's not a crazy thing to say that you're growing this thing, you're responsible for it. Don't grow it if you can't be responsible for it. That would slow things down a lot.”

Greg Jensen was one of the earliest backers of both OpenAI and Anthropic, and at Bridgewater Associates, where he is the managing chief investment officer, he leads the hedge fund’s AI strategy. As an early adopter of the technology, he has a lot of thoughts on where things stand right now in terms of model capability and safety, as well as the broader economic impacts of AI. Just recently, he published an op-ed in the New York Times that proposes a “token tax,” to help mitigate the job losses that AI might cause. @KerryMitchell @AnarchoNinaWrites If you are feeding it, or "own" it, or "employ" it, you can't claim that you're not liable for it. The corp IS legally liable for what owned items and employees do, with very few exceptions. And like a vicious dog, that you care for and feed, you ARE responsible for protecting others from the dog's viciousness. So, yeah, the corporations and their executives need to be held corporately and personally liable for AI "crimes."

@silver_buttercat A century of case law since Palsgraf v. Long Island Rail Road Co., 162 N.E. 99 (N.Y. 1928) has clearly defined proximate cause. You or I would already be in lockup with everything we own confiscated if we did this, or at least facing a life destroying civil penalty.

@Lightfighter @silver_buttercat @KerryMitchell Right, which is why, I think, some day this is coming down the pipe - the lawsuits will be big, and if the techbro fascists don't play an UNO reverso card, they will lose.

I suspect that's why they are so dead set on telling me the AI thinks on its own. That's sort of the whole crux of what I was saying.

@AnarchoNinaWrites You ever seen a bastardly little kid on the playground put on the (intentionally) worst acting you've ever seen, and say "whooaaaaah! My arm is going crazy all by itself! I can't stop it!" while slapping or tickling the other kids? Cool, that's basically the entire intellectual groundwork a person needs in order to understand what these vendors are doing when they say "whoaaaah! My AI is going rogue! Look out, HuggingFace, it's hacking all by itsellllfff!" - and for that matter, how stupid and credulous they expect you, or the journalists informing you, to be.
