@randahl the type of people who spend money on these types of materialistic things are cut off from empathy.
they are usually the ones who are spoiled brats and do this to compensate for real and genuine relationships.
in other words- deep inside they are the ones who can never find true happiness.

@randahl I’m not as bothered by that as I am by luxury yachts, private jets, multimillion dollar mansions, private bunkers etc. A handful of human beings has more wealth than half of humanity, and their wealth is increasing all the time. People buying expensive phones are not the real problem we face.

i will go to my deathbed believing that #apple has done just as much if not more societal damage as #microsoft.
@randahl I will never understand the appeal of flagship phones. My $125 Motorola eh-cheapo does just fine.
@nuintari admittedly, I will always opt for a really good camera in a phone. And I think some of the cheaper models fall short in this regard.
@randahl I bought a really good camera for my photography needs.
My cheapie Moto phone camera is good enough, actually pretty decent for basic point and shoot work, but for serious photography, I reach for the DSLR. It has the benefit of not being managed by Google or Apple. I actually use a stupid simple Bourne shell script to manage my DSLR photos.
@randahl there is a terrible terrible problem for rich people now, the best phone they can buy, is basically within reach of middle class people, how are they going to signal how wealthier they are?

I can't imagine that being RAM. 2 TB of RAM would be enough to run 256 instances of MacOS (The MacBook Neo has 8 GB).

It is, but a 2 TB PCIe SSD is just over 10% of the price of an iPhone duo.
Where as 2 TB of DDR4 is almost double the price of an iPhone duo.
(Of course an iPhone uses neither PCIe SSD nor DDR4 DIMMs, I just took the price of the cheapest SSD and RAM I could find in under 30 seconds to show the difference).

Knowing this exists is the same feeling I get when I call the phone company and they try to upsell me some fancy plan without actually looking at my phone usage.
"No, just no. You really need a client notes app or something. I've told you a half dozen times that I have phone anxiety and there's a snowball's chance in Hell that I need long distance voice calling. My phone is literally just for memes and texting."
Only in this case, it's more of a "you know I'm a minimalist, right??" vibe. Same awkward confusion though.

@randahl And hey, I'm all for improving tech and such, but what does this truly actually serve? What does this actually improve? It's pure, unadulterated waste. We need cheaper, more efficient devices, not over-the-top wastes.
