It *really* annoys me that RNZ gives the Taxpayers' Union and Curia free publicity given that they're not certified and are entirely subjective in their polling. And RNZ knows it. @lightweight Respect the passion but the TPU is skewed hypothesis is getting old, skewing a single poll in a series is pointless, you have to make it up later, and if you miss badly on election day you loose credibility.
The polls Curia were being investigated for didn't have a truth to cross check with, they can get away with anything there, and still make a headline on "do you think we are overtaxed".
Opportunity may have peaked too soon or was a mirage started by Roy Morgan.
@abartlet I just know that the Atlas Network affiliates (the TPU and David Farrar, who is Curia Polls) are quietly funded by extremely wealthy parties, almost certainly offshore. Aotearoa NZ is seen as a bellwether for international trends, so those sorts of folks see this as a good investment... and with polls all you have to do is put a finger on the scales. The point is that these organisations are not neutral, and most of the public assume they are.
@abartlet and, to be clear, the real issue is that the media knows the TPU, FSU, and NZ Initiatives, even though they present themselves as being politically neutral, are anything but ... and yet they seem to actively avoid disclosing that bias even though doing so is clearly in the public interest. To me that's unacceptable - it's a lack of journalistic integrity. What's more, I know journalists at RNZ who agree, and feel the leadership has swung to the right.

They need to note on every Curia poll they didn't adhere to industry standards.
Also they have given up including margins of error in spoken news items.
Sigh.
