Agreed. Proprietary software was inevitable because of capitalism. Free Code software (and the fediverse) exists only because of the dogged efforts of social movements pushing against the dominant paradigm. With the software freedom movement as the cutting tip of the spear, and the much larger Open Source movement as the weight behind the thrust.

I think you're mistaking openwashing for Open Source. The Open Source definition is basically the Debian Free Software Guidelines, which it was based on. If you look at the decisions the OSI has made about which licenses to endorse, based on that definition, they pretty much always reject the same licenses that GNU/FSF reject as proprietary (eg Source Available licenses).
