At a Tesla Takedown protest, walking to the protest area with my sign, an old white guy slowed down his 5-ton vehicle so he could threaten me with words as well as his truck.
I'm not young, but I am a woman, and angry men being free to be violent to women is the entire basis of patriarchy.
I still came back for more (protest).
The man's sudden visceral anger and the threat of violence shook me (of course) but the thing I was thinking, as I kept walking and he kept shouting, menacing me with his truck:
I'M NOT THE ONE WHO IS SCARED HERE.
@urlyman yeah, the US should be a warning that the coalition of people willing to co-sign fascism and support the violence of fascism is constantly shifting and tracks most closely with deeply held views about patriarchy and gender (which doesn't bode well with UK's absolute nightmare treatment of trans people) (of course the US is also actively persecuting trans people)
The lasting lesson of this (one I already knew but keeps getting reaffirmed) is how absolutely threatened by protest the fascists are (those in power and their followers): the words, the refusal, especially from women.
THAT WE DARE TO SAY NO cannot be tolerated.
Because it has incredible power.
