Transcoding a DVD to MPEG-4 is “ squarely what transformative use is,” I told the court. The resulting DVD rip can be played on a “general-purpose device” and selling access to it to subscribers is a "exactly the kind of creation that copyright is designed to foster.”

Of course, when you call the compression scheme ‘AI’, the rules are completely different.
