I'd disagree, but not in ways that makes him look good.
I remember when Starmer was about to take power, he suddenly pivoted to talking about growth. Equality? Nope, that's not important, growth will substitute for that. Not wrecking the planet? Listen, if the economy grows, we can afford more environmentalism.
He never stopped, and he never took his eye off the ball, and the rich never stopped getting richer. Even when Starmer fell from power because he'd lost his voters, he had the backing of the constituency that really mattered, which is the bond market.
Burnham seems to recognise this too. The finance industry did a coup a few years ago and removed Truss from office, and they can do it to him too if he stops delivering them growth.
I think he understands the moment he's in very well. The problem is that in this moment, whomever the prime minister happens to be, their main objective will not be the same as ours.

It’s all so asphyxiatingly narrow
Electoralism is the art of the possible, and as you say, the possible within electoralism has become extremely narrow. That's what convinced me to become an anarchist.
