@wlaatje I'm a bit surprised about estonia and moldova though, maybe their representatives were absent? Or they just don't care enough to vote
🇺🇦 “the Equal Earth maps depict parts of Ukraine’s territory that have been temporarily occupied by Russia […] in a manner that is wholly unacceptable.”
Other sensitive borders/nations/disputes drawn…

@wlaatje @anominominominous on the maps I saw Crimea is shown as independent whereas I did not see any territories like that where South-Ossetia and Abkhazia would be.
Note that the idea of Crimea as an independent entity primarily goverened by Crimean Tatars is something that a significant group in Ukraine feels sympathy for.
It is interesting to see Russia vote in favor of a map depicting Crimea in a different color than itself.
“This resolution mocks the work and purpose of this institution. While this initiative is presented as an anodyne effort to update cartographic proportions, the United States clearly sees it cannot be separated from the much larger and more radical ideological project it belongs to – as its most vocal and committed proponents plainly and openly state.”
@wlaatje To think that representing africa correctly is a 'radical ideological project' you have to be so far gone there's no hope for you.
