Fighters riding camels rounded up a couple of hundred men near the Sudanese city of al-Fashir last weekend and brought them to a reservoir, shouting racial slurs before starting to shoot, according to a witness. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/11/01/world/sudan-paramilitaries-shot-disappeared/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #worldnews #sudan #murder #africa #massmurder
Here in Benin, kids go from door to door too, but during the day on the 1st.
They'll receive biscuits, crackers and sweets.
In my photo below (left), the girls are busy preparing small bags to give tomorrow to kids who'll come to the door playing Kaléta.
"The Kaléta is a mask society from southern Benin. Imported from Brazil in the mid-19th century by former slaves, the Kaléta is made up of groups of masked people, accompanied by singers, dancers and instrument players."

The World Health Organization says it is appalled by reports that more than 460 patients and their companions have been shot dead at the last partially-functional hospital in El Fasher, Sudan. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/10/30/world/who-killing-sudan-hospital/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #worldnews #sudan #africa #darfur #who
Fighting has engulfed El-Fasher in western Sudan as members of a paramilitary group have seized a key army base and gained the upper hand in the major city. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/10/28/world/sudan-paramilitary-darfur-war/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #worldnews #sudan #africa
In the early 1800s, Surinamese artist Gerrit Schouten created a large collection of dioramas called “Paramaribo and the Plantation.” They depict life in Suriname, Africa, notably on plantations.
They’re small, intricate, and made from painted papier-mâché. Behind them are painted backdrops, not unlike what were used in animations.

I really hope people start getting the message that this works.
An early slowing in the population growth as long as it is non-coercive & humane is a good thing.
The humane & non-coercive way to reduce population growth is to empower women.
Most projected population growth is going to be in Africa.
The fastest way to empower women in Africa is electrification through minigrid deployment. This is a win for this and many other things.
It is one of the most important things we could be supporting right now.

"One of the IEA scenarios forecasts a rise to 2,400 TWh across the continent by 2040" It was 730 TWh at the end of 2024.
Since then Africa added 100 TWh. That means with a _purely linear track_ Africa will meet the projection.
I predict it will hit that 2,400 TWh in the early 2030s and the majority will be solar.

@nizarus glad I got graduated in 2019, & I got kicked off the #ISI in 2016
I have m$ accounts anyway because I was on the #ISI m$ club & there was a free full #DreamSpark subscription that had to be associated with an m$ account but still, removing choices from students means we are closer to the Nazi #Germany than to, say, #South #Africa
