After Trump took office in 2025, a technology industry friend I've known and respected for a long time flagged the naming of former Microsoft exec Doug Burgum as Interior Secretary as a sign that real grownups would be in top posts. Yeah, right.
Burgum has turned out to be one of the worst appointees.He is a total lackey for Trump, eager to adopt retrograde policies and lie through his teeth.

A few weeks ago, I sent a note to the person who'd assured me that Burgum was an honorable and excellent person, asking (indirectly) if he'd reconsidered. I got no reply. Disappointing.
