Every so often, I have the pleasure of clicking a link to find a website which is simply text.
No pop-ups, no videos, no lurid colour scheme, no stick-thin fancy font, no JavaScript, no "click here to read more".
Just text on a page.
Plain, simple, and no distractions.
I miss that web (yes, I know about custom CSS, and reader mode).
This is probably one of the reasons why I love sites with full-text RSS feeds: the joy of the content without the cruft.

Any page that lets me use Firefox's "reader mode" just makes my day. Sometimes it lets me bypass a paywall 🤫

That last line could be read more disparagingly than I meant it.
I know that some people love to craft websites with beautiful, cohesive themes, that reflect their identity and creativity.
I can see, and appreciate, the artistry in that.
Even though my preference is for plain, boring, text on a page.

You know what I'm going to say, but, actually; you do you. Whatever works for you is right for you.
Some people would be happy/happier to eat a michelin-starred meal from a paper plate and drink Bollinger Premier Grand Cru from a plastic beaker. I's not my idea of fun but the world would be a boring place if we were all the same.

(And, yes, your website is exactly the kind of thing I had in mind when I wrote about beautiful sites with artistic themes and design. But I think that you already know that I think that :))
@neil Your preference is at the crux of the truly ancient interplay between substance and spectacle, form and function, content and display. If I want visual joy, I have the sky and flowers and trees and all of the real world around me. But when I want thoughts I can't get other ways I look for words in print, text, content, substance. Also separateimg content from presentation is at the heart of the original idea of the web, and a truly flat text-based presentation is inherently adaptive. Screen readers can read your text page. And if someone wants to have hot pink background and flame red text, they can make that happen in their browser, with their own user controlled settings. But I think you already know all that, friend!
