Well, in the Dutch case for the Netherlands' Central Bank to remove its physical gold reserves from storage in New York and transfer them to London (some was physically relocated; some was sold in NY & 'new' gold reserves purchased in London).

The Dutch cited the need to easily access the gold in a crisis as a key motive behind the move; make of that what you will.
