It,s crazy how much of the web no longer works when I enable all of my privacy protection options... and I'm well aware I'm not at 100% private in my set up.

@hellomiakoda If there would be a way to not come across pages that don't work (properly), I'd be relatively fine with that. A search engine with only results that work well without JS, and no place linking to pages that don't work. Nobody referencing any sites that I can't read or use anyway. This (sub) web doesn't exist. That's what's stopping me from browsing the web with Dillo or Lynx. And that's what's annoying about using the web with a browser with privacy conscious settings.
In a way the Gemini space fills this hole in the web.

@dillo Yes, there are many lists and directories like this. And thanks for sharing! But it's not the same as knowing you will never encounter a not so simple site.
Maybe I'm using it wrong and my problem is that I know of content-rich sites that deserve the label web app more than web site and because I know of them I will visit them and so I don't experience a working simple web.
I've tried to make Dillo my main web browser before. But it didn't last three months before I gave up. (Not even my own web site is displayed correctly in Dillo. [Old convenient float that I'm used to, among other problems.])
It feels like something needs to happen to make the web nice again.

@steeph @hellomiakoda there is "never encountering a bloated site" for which yeah Gemini or Gopher are great, but also "most sites you find are not bloated" and for that search engines that only index those sites do a nice job. Marginalia also gives you some hints on JS and other details before opening the site.
