since i tried out a smaller keyboard a couple of years ago i found out about the compose key and it's just so good for multilingual input. no more worrying about where to put those umlauts or other special characters, it gives you access to such a wide alphabet on very little space and the mapping is quite intuitive, at least for the characters i use (e.g. o + / = ø)
