I’m making excellent progress on #sewing a superhero cosplay commission today…
@fehrtrade nice fabric! 🥰
@dec_hl thank you! It looks like they’ve sold out this print in the dri-release base fabric but it’s available as swimsuit lycra, which would be v cool…
@fehrtrade will you show the finished outfit?
@dec_hl oh sorry, I referenced the wrong fabric in my earlier reply - this was made with foiled lycra from FunkiFabrics.
Showing the finished outfit depends on whether my client is comfortable sharing them online, but I will if I can.
@fehrtrade they are lucky to have a pro making it! Are you designing the bulk of it from your book too?
Also what's the machine to the left of your sewing machine? Is it also a surger?
@fullywoolly thanks! I’m using our FehrTrade Tenacity Leggings pattern and a modified Close Fitting Top Block from the book. 😉 Oh, and some bonus Arm Sleeves too.
The machine to the left is my coverstitch - it creates those two lines of stretchy stitching you see on teeshirt hems. (My serger/overlocker is to the right)
@fehrtrade cool! I finally bought your book which should get to me on Saturday. I've been feeling a little overwhelmed with following patterns lately but still looking forward to checking it out!
Thanks for the info on the cover stitch. It looks like it also trims as it goes like the overlocker? You have all the fun toys! I'd heard about those from my teacher. She also said you can kind of mimic it with a twin needle which is what I plan to use whenever I get around to making my tshirts.
@fullywoolly fabulous! I hope you enjoy the book!
The coverstitch doesn’t trim - it topstitches. You can mimic it with a twin needle which is much cheaper, but has its own perils (you’ve got to buy twin needles for each fabric type, and reeeeeally loosen the bobbin tension when you use them so it’s a bit of a pain to keep switching back & forth)
@fehrtrade oh interesting. I just lost power so can't take a picture but the T-shirt I'm wearing was clearly cut right next to the coverstitch. Maybe a special industrial machine?
Thanks for the tip about the bobbin tension!
