After eight days of #hiking near Trento, Italy, here are some thoughts on #map apps:
There are still reasons to have #GoogleMaps on your phone. It is very useful when you need to answer questions like: "What restaurants are in the area and are open now?" or "How can I use public transportation to get from any given Point A to any given Point B at any given time?"
However, when it comes to actually finding hiking paths, #OrganicMaps - which uses #OpenStreetMap data as a base - simply blows it out of the water. Organic Maps simply has a vastly better data set of footpaths than Google Maps, including really small and obscure ones. Sure, sometimes you get a false positive and come across a path that is not public after all. But that's still vastly better than Google leading you into vast circles to the next throughfares.
