I've lately been quite obsessed with this app called StreetComplete. It gamifies contributing to OpenStreetMaps in a really nice way by giving you you little quests to do while you walk around. A fun way to get some steps in, to make you look closer at your environment and to do a good thing!

1/ Since the theme of this #MythologyMonday is "Maps", I'd like to talk about the importance of maps for my research of German #folklore . A majority of German folk tales mention real world physical locations, but actually finding these locations can be tricky, since they are often obscure, have different spelling, or are no longer used in the modern day. Yet I still want to identify them so that my readers can actually visit these places if they want!
2/ I usually start my searches with #GoogleMaps and #OpenStreetMap , since each of them usually includes some searchable locations that the other does not.

💡 De mon POV, l'affichage carte de #GoogleMaps est pauvre, mal calibré, illisible, grossier, brouillon… rendant la projection spatiale laborieuse lors de la préparation d'un voyage.

Can anyone with a regular and recent #stockROM#Android phone confirm if they were able to uninstall (not deactivate!) pre-installed apps like #Chrome, #Youtube, #GoogleMaps, #GoogleDrive, #GooglePhotos, or #Gmail ?
Hmmm, so #Google lobbyists claim "All apps on Android can be uninstalled" but from my testing on #Android 16 with all latest updates on a #Pixel this appears to be false.
Google's own #DMA compliance report from March 2025 says this is wrong:
"Android allows to uninstall apps by: (i) fully deleting apps that are downloaded or pre-installed in the user partition; and (ii) uninstalling apps in the system partition such that they are returned into an uninstalled state."
Can anyone with a regular and recent #stockROM#Android phone confirm if they were able to uninstall (not deactivate!) pre-installed apps like #Chrome, #Youtube, #GoogleMaps, #GoogleDrive, #GooglePhotos, or #Gmail ?
Observation. #GoogleMaps has updated the #GulfOfMexico to be #GulfOfAmerica. #OpenStreetMap apps such as #OSMand and #OrganicMaps have not. And it isn't for lack of contribution; there's tons of contributions in this area of the map just in the last couple hours. It's just that, as an open source non profit not based in the US; it's a little less susceptible to political nonsense like renaming a body of water to be more 'Murican. Who would've thought maps could get political.
