I am old enough to consider myself a survivor of a least one previous so-called "A'I" Winter". The next one? Cannot come quickly enough IMHO.

I am also a vegan.

I am, oh so very tired, of oh so very much.

Yet I expect "the beatings will continue until morale improves" and morale: will never improve.

So the continued non consensual hell scape in which I seem to be stuck, will perpetuate. C'est la vie!

I am not even going to get into being tasked with writing anti-A"I" code decades ago, on others' systems, because I was never allowed to keep so much as a byte on a floppy disk of any of the code I wrote on others' systems, decades ago. Though I assure you, I began formal instruction in programming when I was six, had used other systems earlier than that most have probably only ever heard about in history books (if they bothered to look at any) and only finally pieced together a computer of my own from odds and ends when I was around 18 after being forced to work as a janitor under peril of not having a roof over my head.

So there's at least a dozen years of toiling on others' systems, even at places such as nps.navy.mil (supposedly some of my code even ran on a Cray at FNMOC which I was only allowed to look at from behind plexiglass, never touch or "get time" on personally) where I was never credited, never cited, and from my vantage I am very much in the realms of: "those who have learned from history are apparently doomed to watch others repeat it."

I still can't entirely wrap my head around the reality that the current administration earmarked HALF A TRILLION dollars to A"I" research, even though, decades earlier, it was considered a dead end (emphasis on dead).

Or, to paraphase Doug Engelbart (whom I knew personally) in an interview with Robert X. Cringley: "Lick [JCR Licklider] cut our [D]ARPA funding because he thought that we should have a [n A'I'] system which would train its users. It's been a few decades since then, and I have still never encountered a system which can train its users."

Note: Engelbart worked at SRI, he co-created NLS (oNLine System, which was later called [D]ARPANet or the Internet). SRI had cross licensing agreements with Xerox PARC and SAIL (Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab) which is to say: Doug was already completely aware of the most advanced research in such realms. It didn't pass muster then, it still: does not pass muster.

Alas, I am not these people's (referring to the current LLM cadre of techbroligarch billionaires) peer. I never was, I never will be. So my "review"? Is not peer review.

It's like, elder review, and the "young whippersnappers" didn't get enough discipline apparently. I am not their dad. I am not their teacher. How did Rob Pike once phrase it somewhere? "Children must learn these things for themselves."

The harrowing part is: observing all the damage and havoc and needless harms caused in the interim by those abusing their wealth and power.

Same as it ever was I suppose. SNAFU.

So yeah, "A'I' veganism"? I have been called worse.

Moreover, for me? Veganism is just a stepping stone, I would prefer to be growing frugivore food forests.
