@jpm If I remember correctly, only a little over 1% of the population here even bother attend a Church of England service during a typical week - and most of those do so for community rather than devout adherence. America's extreme religiosity really is unique in the Western world, and quite terrifying to most Europeans, where fundamentalist/evangelical Christianity has largely lost its grip and influence.
We just ain't that into that old-timey religion no more. 🤷🏻♂️
@jpm @todayilearned the many ways in which the US was a past success (by some measures) as well as being a hellscape for many others, and particularly now its undeniable decline into a christofascist bin fire is almost exclusively attributable to the violent puritanical streak and the various socio-economic-political mindsets that spring from it.
