In a 2012 divorce deposition Robert F. Kennedy Jr. described cognitive problems, including telling doctors and lawyers about a possible parasite that "ate" part of his brain, and he used those ailments as part of an argument that his earning capacity was diminished and therefore alimony should be reduced.

Kennedy has not produced medical records to publicly substantiate the more dramatic claims, and some accounts show inconsistent versions of how he described the condition.
