I have a copyleft / copyright question.
What is the copyright status of the *comments* on my blog?
I want to licence my posts as CC BY-SA. My comment form has never told people that their words will be republished under any specific licence.
I could put something on there now - but that wouldn't retrospectively apply to all the previous comments - nor to the WebMentions from the Fediverse.
So do I just say that comments are © their author?
I would be crude and rude in a good way, it's your site and it's your progressive licence. If you were grabbing copyright and I would say the opposite, so intentions matter.
@Edent I think that saying comments are © their author is the only legal solution for existing comments. You could add licence details to the comment form for future comments, and display them differently (licence field saved in DB, or just any comments after DATETIME of deployment are published under the new licence)
