The thing to remember is every accusation is a confession. Or telling you how you should feel as they've lost control.
Including "you should all be ashamed of yourselves."
They felt shame. There's the empathy hit, that makes them want to lash out as you made them feel bad. They need the control back.
Those of us who've had that move done to us recognise it for the abusive outburst it is.
There are other projects to support and works we need to do. There's a lot to be done.
Find the folks who do care. Who are political and upfront about it. Who understand about community safety and don't have distain for their communities.
You'll get more done without catering to abusers needs. Be picky, be mindful.
The projects who need our help and who can help you are out there.
There's FOSS folks out there who aren't fascists and like you don't feel at home in FOSS anymore.
@onepict The greatest disillusionment I’ve had with FOSS over the years is that it is not, by & large, a progressive movement.
It seems to be more libertarian than anything else which may be why it is so easily hijacked by capitalist, corporate, & fascist actors.
@causticmsngo @onepict This has been the big shock for me. As someone that was very drawn to the community aspect of open source software and to the idea that software should be made so that everyone can have access to it and there for opportunity to use it... that all seems so naturally progressive and almost anarchist or socialist or some variation thereof. What a great idea, to form a community that builds and uses tools that are good for the community...
But in the last few months it's become very clear to me that open source software is just another source for major companies to exploit. And some of that may have to do with how much money can be made in open source (look at acquisitions like Red Hat, Github, and Bun, to name just the first three that come to mind).
But I also wonder whether open source software become, at some point, just another place for capitalists to gather so they could push back against companies with more money than them. The goal wasn't to serve a community, the goal was to get bought out.
Maybe I'm being cynical, but as someone learning to code later in life, it sure does have a stink about it.

Like recently @abucci coined the term LOSS to represent Libertarian Open Source Software.
@jens is considering MOSS (Mutual Open Source Software)
While some of this was snark, those terms MOSS in particular resonate, with LOSS giving a term that defines the issue.
Of course in time, even if those terms became popular, there's always a rusk of corp capture.
