Trans people in Wales need your help right now (a thread).
NHS Wales are hitting pause on all gender affirming surgeries while they do an enquiry into why Welsh patients are getting the care they need (unlike in England, Scotland and NI).
Cis folks - keep reading and do the action points at the end of this thread, then boost and directly contact your other cis friends to get them to do the same.

@alexisbushnell It may well have had something to do with this article published by Nation Cymru 02/07/26. The journalist responsible for the article uses as a source 'Freelance journalist Nick Wallis has written an article on his Gender Blog'. If you look at his gender blog it becomes immediately apparent that he is a transphobe. I tried complaining to Nation Cymru at the time of the publication of the article but the journalist just doubled down:

@strangetown @alexisbushnell it's worth you both knowing nation.cymru is run by the head of the Welsh tories, so it acts as their propaganda arm. Complaining to then will be quite redundant

We believe the NHS Wales’ Quality, Safety and Outcomes Sub-Committee have now told the GDNRSS (national surgery referrals) and hospitals to stop gender affirming surgeries for welsh patients effective immediately. We are verifying exactly who did this, why, when, and how - This is not final information but a handful of welsh patients have already come forward to say they have been turned away.

You will not be affected if: You're thinking about anything that is not surgery, or it's more than 3 months away (wishful thinking on our part)

Write to your non-Reform or Tory MSes, especially if they are Plaid - https://test.senedd.wales/find-a-member-of-the-senedd/
Make a complaint by contacting your local Llais team, who are the NHS Wales patient advocacy team - https://www.llaiswales.org/in-your-area
It seems like the NHS Wales Joint Comissioning Committee (NHSWJCC) are the ones who have made the decision here.
