I'm sympathetic to this article by Acemoglu, but wonder what it will change to talk about what we "need". The economic and political system is currently set up to enable AI companies to pursue pretty much whatever agenda they wish. How will that get changed?
Should we not (should an economist not) be asking: How did we find ourselves in a situation where the agenda is being set by a bunch of astronomically wealthy sociopaths?
