How did "one bad apple spoils the bunch" get changed to "just a few bad apples"? 
That little switch completely reverses the meaning of the saying/proverb/warning.
It seems awfully convenient that a proverb warning about the rotting influence of one bad apple has changed to excuse any rot as an outlier & not indicative of a systemic failure.
