@glyph I personally would remove the quote but wow expecting volunteers in their own corner of the internet who are decades into a passion engineering project to process a political issue and work it through their own ethical frameworks and make a change within a few hours is a bit harsh. A bit of space and time instead of a pile on might get better outcomes here.

@glyph The maintainer might not be from the UK? Imagine waking up and your 20 year project has gotten a bunch of emails from somewhere about a political issue. It can take time to process. I notice we are all quiet on dictatorships using GPL/MIT code due to a higher belief in user freedom... But I am on the side of the PR! I'm just holding open the door that the maintainer needs some time to work it through

There's never a bad time to learn more languages. From what I understand, Python and Elixir are both similar enough that the learning curve wouldn't be too steep. Python is older than Ruby, and appears to be more widely used.
But you can deepen your understanding even more by learning at least the basics of a few languages that are totally different from any you already know.
@strypey I tried Python a couple of decades ago, significant whitespace just doesn’t work for me. Elixir’s alright, but too niche and not useful as a scripting language.
I’m aware of other options, and my own available time and energy, and the gain is not worth it for me at this time. And it’s not like I can literally only write code in Ruby, it’s just that that’s where I have the experience and gaining it elsewhere is not a trivial thing.
