someone in the US has once again typo'd their e-mail such that it ends up as my e-mail and is furiously trying to order things from a store called "CVS" via DoorDash
@halcy a colleague had this happen, someones instagram account. turns out they were an influencer with a decent number of followers so ... he stole the account. uh
@snoutgrab finders keepers rules
@halcy damn, tell them everyone moved to SVN years ago
also from "wingstop" and some other places
? ? ?
I password reset and logged in to try to delete the account, which seems to have sent a sms to the guy and scared him enough that he checked the mail and fixed it
guess that is fine, then
@halcy
I keep getting monthly bank account statements from some loser halfway around the world who mistyped their gmail address. With “enhanced security” and other phrases that make infosec people drink.
@halcy I used to get uber emails and a few other things from some Brazilian lady for a few years. I think it was also after trying to force some unsubscribe or reset thing that it stopped.
@trodrigues My top list are:
* A bank. Like a literal bank just had my e-mail on someone elses account for a while and I tried repeatedly to get them to take it off and they promised they would and then did not.
* An internet company that sent increasingly threatening mails that the person whose account it actually was should pay their bills. their bills that they sent only to the e-mail, which she wasn't getting.
* And the absolute top, a government organization sending me information about someones criminal background check related to working with children, out of the blue, and didn't respond to e-mails at all.
absolute dipshit behaviour from companies once again to not *validate the e-mail on signup*
like there should be no situation where I, random dipshit around the world, am basically forcibly exposed to someones name, address and credit card details because you cannot take 15 seconds to make sure that the e-mail doesnt have a typo
@halcy but think of the bounce rate during registration! The poor shareholders!
@halcy lmao I was just posting about something very similar
