Still waiting for an Android Matrix client that properly supports both SSS and spaces. Neither FluffyChat nor Schildichat Next properly marks rooms as read on Tuwunel, while Nheko manages it fine. And FluffyChat is flutter so bloated and slow. If I wanted bloated and slow I'd just use Discord.

And of course *without* SSS, the client will be slow even if it's not written using a shitty bloated crossplatform framework. Because if Matrix were deliberately designed so that only well-funded corporations could make fully functional clients and servers, I'm not sure what its designers would have done differently. As it is, all clients have pretty much no choice other than to use its gigantic Rust implementation of e2ee (vodozemac) and the hundreds of transitive dependencies it pulls in.
I don't know why I even bother anyway. Matrix is just gonna limp along sucking with a stagnant userbase. If it were going to matter it would have by now.
And of course you get the same sort of dark patterns with the flagship corpo Matrix client that you'd expect from a proprietary app, having to jump through hoops to create an account or log in anywhere but matrix.org.
Decided to check Element X again. Looks like its support for spaces has improved, though it's still not as nice as Schildichat Next (which is a fork). I'll keep playing with it, but it appears Schildichat Next inherits its bugs with marking rooms read from Element X. Which means it's probably broken in the Rust SDK.
