@vadim I’d liken that use of a clip to a screenshot. “Here is the example/proof of …”. A follow is the desire to watch it all similar to use (weak analogy incoming) watching all of Fox News via a webcam stream from a tv that receives cable which you refuse to use because you’re a firm believe in OTA broadcasting.

I’d also go one step further with the nuance and say that I suspect many people who use the following service services are looking to follow creators they care about not watching for behavior they need to cite for other reasons.

I left Twitter for my own reasons years ago. At the time that I left, there were multiple creators who I wanted to still follow without having to use that site. I realized, that they have made a choice to continue to use a service which I felt is inappropriate for use. I respect their right to make that choice. However, I’m not going to encourage them to continue to ignore platforms that I think are more suitable by rewarding them for not doing so. That’s what I’m driving at. It’s a weak piece of nuance in part because a creator‘s goal is to have their content seen, shared, and ideally monetized. By using a follow service, I’m giving them one to two of those because even though I’m not directly monetized, I may share what I’ve seen and it’ll definitely be part of where I go with thinking.
