I don't know if there's anything I can care less about than VR at this point. I mean, I called this a decade ago. Have the laws of physics changed since then? Have we invented radically new things? https://blog.codinghorror.com/i-tried-vr-and-it-was-just-ok/
@codinghorror I love VR but its still early days.
Id say resolution looks significantly better on a Quest 3 and it is less heavy than a Quest 2 but it still faces the same issues like mostly needing a good gaming PC, etc.
To me, a VR headset is a device that allows me to visit/socialise with friends in VRChat around the world in a casual house party sort of way AND it kind of evokes the same joy as engaging with people on a community forum in 2004. People talk like people again (mostly)
@codinghorror VR is also a really old idea. People have been trying to get it to work since the late 1960s.
@codinghorror The Quest 3 feels like a genuine step up from what you described in that post.
I still think the medium has potential, though it feels doomed to be kinda niche absent something that I don't see coming right now.
In addition to the usual recs for Beat Saber, etc. Crashland is pretty great: https://www.crashlandvr.com/
@wlach how so? Quest 3? If Apple's elite SoCs and design can't crack this I don't think anyone can. Not without new science, new discoveries, real hardcore physics stuff. Not the easy kind.
@codinghorror Most of what you're describing still applies, although I think the graphics part is genuinely better (albeit an incremental improvement): it no longer feels like we're running in 320x200.
