Today in "horrors beyond mortal comprehension" I learned that there is an abandoned Mr Blobby theme park in Somerset, and would like to propose it as the location of the 2027 UK Fedi meetup.
@afewbugs how is @Shrigglepuss not all over this thread oh god what have I done
@nic @Shrigglepuss the summoning is intoned. The entity stirs.
Horrified that there might have been even more, I'm relieved to report that there were only 3 too many of these liminal eldritch abominations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crinkley_Bottom
@greytheearthling "The owners of the land initially blocked off the site, eventually demolishing Dunblobbin' in 2014 due to vandalism and the holding of illegal raves" Can...can you imagine being on drugs, your perception of reality already shaky, stumbling through the woods to be unexpectedly confronted with _that_? I'm surprised a bunch of ravers didn't drop dead on the spot of heart attacks
The gaping maws of the blobby house demand children.
@afewbugs gosh, it’s like our very own Chernobyl Exclusion Zone
@afewbugs This article reads like it was written by AI. It is very unclear about the timeline of the site and uses mixed tenses everywhere. The whole place was demolished in 2014
@davidbcohen more quality journalism from Devon Live
@afewbugs My partner used to start singing the Mr Blobby song at the most random moments. Every time that happened my horrified face did amuse the kids though. Then I learnt that it had been the 1993 Christmas no.1 and decided that ignorance had indeed been bliss.
@afewbugs I can definitely remember when there were brown tourist signs on the M5 for Crinkly Bottom.
I know it's silly season for the news, but "here's several thousand words about an unsuccessful theme park that wasn't even in the county, hasn't been open for thirty years, and was levelled over a decade ago" is quite the editorial decision.
@dash Devon Live is...like that unfortunately 😂
@afewbugs something about "the performance area" is very troubling
@afewbugs
I understood it had finally been demolished.
@afewbugs Not having been in the UK in the 1990s, I only found out about Mr Blobby from Fedi accounts after I signed up here. I naturally thought it was an elaborate Fedi hoax. Which I haven’t entirely ruled out.
@floppyplopper @futzle an underlying theme of a lot of horror is if you create an entity and invest too much belief in it it becomes real
