@devlord @pluralistic I try to explain this sometimes and get blank stares. My first internet job was at a company prominent enough to be featured in a Wired cover story but it was my friend who I'd met working in non-profit theater who recommended me for it.

Humanities majors didn't build the infrastructure, but we understood what to build on top of it. Everything we needed to know about web strategy we learned by making zines and sharing mix tapes.

My undergrad degree was in technical writing and history of science. Got a MS at CMU in time to get out to Silicon Valley for the Dot-Com years.

I wasn't the only co-worker with a cubicle full of eclectic shit to remind us of where we came from.
