There are only really two countries participating in the data center building festival. The US and China. 90 percent of data centers are in these two countries.
I have a hazy notion what the ones in the US are being used for, although I have questions about if they are really needed (and is there real demand for more?)
How are the centers in China being used? That I know even less about.

I know there is a huge controversy over Google building a massive-I-think-even-by-current-hyperscaler-datacenters one in a region of India (I'm not going to specifically mention particular environmental or economic/poverty concerns because I don't remember any specifics, but IIRC there IS something there so look for those angles if looking this up),
and I don't know the current state of active datacenters or other ongoing projects.
India isn't working on the same scale as the US and China. No country is.
It's like some kind of extra brain dead space race.
Do the powerful people in China think they too are on the precipice of AGI? God I hope not. I thought they were smarter than our oligarchs... but why would they be?
